See previous photo for description. - Homespun/Wool-Ease sweater
[11/28/2004] Between afghans, I decided to use up some of my surplus Homespun on a sweater for myself. Pattern Source: ASN leaflet #1322, Crochet Homespun Sweaters by George Shaheen. - Basketweave pullover
[1/19/2004] This was my first attempt at making a clothing item freeform, using a basic stitch but no actual pattern. Except for the fact that I crochet pretty tightly and therefore always end up getting the size wrong (this is very tight on me, so I ended up giving it to my mother, who's smaller than I am), it came out really nice. I used a basketweave stitch done by doing 4 front-post dc alternating with 4 back-post dc. I did it in rounds so I didn't have to sew -- worked from the bottom up, then did rows starting from the armpit, and decreased at the neckline to give it almost a V-shape. I slip-stitched the shoulder seams and crocheted the sleeves right onto the body rather than making them separately and sewing. I have since made another for myself. Pattern Source: Original. I did not write out the pattern, just free-formed it. - Blue fuzzy sweater
[10/25/2003] I actually made this a couple years ago and just now noticed that I never put it on my page! I got this weird fuzzy blue yarn at a yarn sale in NJ (actually, I also got the wool-blend burgundy I used in the sweater just above this at the same sale). I didn't include a detail picture here because the yarn is so fuzzy that you really can't see the individual stitches anyway. Pattern Availability: I did this so long ago that I'm not absolutely sure (and the stitches are so hard to see that I can't tell by looking), but I think this pattern was from Leisure Arts leaflet #2514, Back to Basics: Crochet Pullovers and Cardigans. - Aran sweater (detail)

[10/25/2003] This is more of a burgundy color than it looks in the picture. I love these cable-type patterns that look like knitting. The pattern here called for sport-weight yarn, but I used worsted and didn't have to change the pattern much since I crochet pretty tightly to begin with. Pattern Availability: Another from Red Heart Aran Classics, leaflet #105035. Their phone number is (800) 526-5111. - Shaded blue nylon pullover (detail)

[9/28/2003] This was a result of my desire to experiment with the shading technique where you start with 3 strands of one color and then switch them one at a time to create a gradual color change. I used nylon thread and only two strands, so the change isn't as gradual as it could be, but it came out pretty nice. Pattern Source: The pattern is from a book called Today's Crochet: Sweaters from the Crochet Guild of America, by Susan Huxley, but I tweaked it here and there because of the difference in materials and the color changes. - Variegated summer pullover
[8/24/2002] Summer pullover done in a now-discontinued variegated Luster Sheen. Pattern Source: April 1995 issue of Crochet Fantasy. Their phone number is (800) 877-5527 if you'd like to call and see if they sell the back issue; you can also visit their website. In fact, it's the exact same pattern as the blue top shown elsewhere in this album. - Lacy thread top
[11/4/2002] Pattern Source: This is from Leisure Arts leaflet #3204, Pretty Tops in Thread. - Pineapple pullover (close-up)

[6/11/2002] I decided I really wanted to use some of the tons of white Luster Sheen that I bought when I thought I was going to make my wedding dress out of it. I wanted to make a short-sleeved top with an open, lacy pattern; though I found lots of possibilities, none of them really excited me. The one I found that I liked was actually a long-sleeved top made of size-10 thread, with a flat (straight across) neckline, so as you can see below, I adapted it to work with the thicker Luster Sheen and made it short-sleeved and V-necked. The result came out quite nice; below is a picture of the whole top, as well as a close-up of the pineapple pattern. Pattern Source: The original pattern is from Crochet Fantasy #111, November 1996. To check if they have the back-issue available for purchase, call (800)877-5527 or visit their website. I did not write down directions for my changes; however, once I figured out that the basic pattern requires a starting chain of a multiple of 23 stitches plus 4, it was easy to adapt as the pattern is very repetitive. - Chenille backpack
