- Praline Pinwheel doily
Praline Pinwheel doily [8/29/2002] Pattern Source: ASN's Ultimate Doily Book. Annie's Attic now distributes ASN's publications. - Prairie Star Afghan
[3/20/2003] As I've mentioned, I love quilt-like afghans! Pattern Source: Got this from a kit at Mary Maxim. Unfortunately, they no longer seem to carry it, but PurpleKitty Yarns is currently offering a copy free with any purchase. - Thread purse
Pattern Source: The Filet Crochet Book. - Thread purse
I actually made the purse for my friend Laura's wedding, but she gave it to me for mine. Pattern Source: Crochet for Today by Leisure Arts. - rafting
- Rainbow shaded doily
Rainbow shaded doily [8/1/2004] Another shaded doily done with 3 strands of sewing thread. Pattern Source: Annie's Attic leaflet #874111, "Painted Doilies" by Ferosa Harold. - Close-up of rainbow shaded doily.
Close-up of rainbow shaded doily. [8/1/2004] See previous photo for pattern source and description. - The wedding dress!
I still can't believe that I actually made this! The dress took me just short of five months to make -- I started it on December 16, 1998 and finished on May 9, 1999, or a little more than a month before the wedding. During that period, I did very little else besides crochet in my free time. Pattern source: Magic Crochet magazine, February 1999 issue. - Sophisticated Swirl
I made this afghan in June 1996 for some friends' wedding. The pattern is from Quick and Cozy Afghans, a Leisure Arts book. I highly recommend this book for beginner and advanced crocheters alike -- lots of easy, but beautiful, patterns in here. This swirl afghan is not only easy -- the only stitches used are sc and ch -- but it's very quick and warm, because it's made with two strands of worsted-weight yarn. I have to make one of these for myself. Pattern Source: Quick and Cozy Afghans can be ordered from Amazon. - Aran sweater
[10/25/2003] This is more of a burgundy color than it looks in the picture. I love these cable-type patterns that look like knitting. The pattern here called for sport-weight yarn, but I used worsted and didn't have to change the pattern much since I crochet pretty tightly to begin with. Pattern Availability: Another from Red Heart Aran Classics, leaflet #105035. Their phone number is (800) 526-5111. - Aran sweater (detail)
See previous photo for description and pattern source. - "Twists and Turns" mat
"Twists and Turns" mat [6/29/2004] This is one of those patterns that make me really admire the versatility of crochet. It wasn't easy (the magazine lists the skill level as "Top Expert"), but I love the ribbon-like appearance. Pattern Source: Magic Crochet magazine #150, June 2004. - "Twists and Turns" mat (close-up)
"Twists and Turns" mat (close-up) See previous photo for description and pattern source. - Shadow filet rose doily
Shadow filet rose doily This doily is a filet crochet rose, done with tr's instead of dc's; in this way I could use what is known as "shadow spaces" to make the leaves. (A shadow space is ch 1, tr, ch 1, while a closed block is 3 tr and an open block is 3 chs...each is bordered by 2 tr, of course.) Wish I could find more shadow-filet patterns; I think they're really neat. Pattern Source: Floral Doilies by Dover Needlework. - Rose barrette
Pattern Source: Original; pattern is here. (Incidentally, if you want to know how I did these hairstyles, check out the book Hair: A Book of Braiding and Styles by Anne Akers Johnson.
