This depicts the Eagle and the Raven, the two major moieties (clans) of the Tlingit people. Everyone belongs to one or the other, and they can't marry within their own clans -- Eagles have to marry Ravens and vice versa. It's matrilineal, so you belong to whichever one your mother is.
