Several icebergs, or "growlers," had broken off the glacier in recent months. They look small from a distance, but they were larger than our 10-person canoes (one of which can be seen to the left).

The valley in the top center is the result of a glacier. If it were lower and contained seawater it would fit the definition of a fjord.
