Another view of the living room floor. I suspect the previous owners had a couch against the wall; the light spot is probably the area in front where people put their feet when they sat.

I have to wonder who actually thought this looked good. To me it just seems dingy and I've wanted to get rid of it since we first looked at the house.

This square of linoleum was on top of *another* square of linoleum by the front door. The black curve is where the rug used to end; they had a metal edging there. When we pulled up the carpet, one corner of the yellow stuff was visible under the brown.

That was pulled up a bit further, as you can see in the picture, by one of the guys who came to give us an estimate on the refinishing. (It's all gone now, though.)
